Sunday morning services

We meet together at 10:00am every Sunday to encourage one another in our Christian walk, and to hear one of our pastors clearly and practically explain the message of the Bible - which is the greatest encouragement of all.

Usually, over a series of Sundays our pastors will do a series of sermons through a particular book of the Bible. This helps us keep the teaching of the Bible in context, and guards against only looking at the bits that suit us!

We provide a Crèche for babies and toddlers (0-3yrs), if parents would like to make use of this. There are also Sunday School classes available for children during the morning service.

We celebrate the Lord's Supper on the first Sunday morning of each month. Anyone who is a follower of Jesus Christ is invited to join with us in remembering Jesus' sacrifice on the cross.

During the service, there is a collection taken up to help pay for the running of the church, and to support our pastors and a number of Christian workers in other parts of the world. Visitors aren't in any way expected to put in to the collection; however we ask that our regular attenders contribute as they're able.

Recordings of the Bible talks, or even a series of talks, are available upon request.

Sunday School

MBC Sunday School caters for children aged from 3 to 12 years. Children learn about God, his love for them through Jesus, and how to love others — all in a loving, nurturing and age-appropriate environment.

At around 10.30am in the church service, the children are invited to go out to Sunday School. There they will learn Biblical truth through teaching, crafts, stories, music and activities.

Each age group is staffed by approved volunteers who are deeply committed to the spiritual growth of your child. All our Sunday School teachers and helpers have the 'Working with Children' clearance required by law.

As in the church service, the Bible is used as the main source for all lessons. Our teachers do their best to get across its spiritual truth in creative, interesting ways.

Youth Group

Every Friday evening (6.30pm - 8.30pm, during school terms), the young 'uns get together for a meal, activities, games and a Bible study. A light dinner is provided, and events are aimed at building relationships with each other and with God.

A couple of times each year, the youth go on a camp which usually results in too much fun and not enough sleep... There are other activities (going to the movies, etc.) which combine to make the Youth Group a well-rounded program with the Bible's message about Jesus at the heart. Not to be missed if you're 10 years or older!

G.I.F.T.

'Girls In Fellowship Together' is a Bible study group made up of Mums or ladies who are in the 30-to 40-something age bracket. There is a crèche provided for small children, which is organised on a roster basis. The morning tea also runs on a roster — and it's always accompanied by good (real!)coffee. G.I.F.T. meets every 2nd Monday, 9.30 - 11.30am, during school terms.

Home Groups

Here at MBC we believe that if our members are to grow toward maturity as Christians, then our church must "get smaller as we get larger."

This is why there are a number of small groups in which church people get together to study the Bible, develop meaningful friendships, and help each other build a strong foundation for their lives.

Every attender at our church is encouraged to be part of a small group. Most of these groups meet in homes scattered throughout the metropolitan area.

Kids Corner

Kids Corner is a pre-school program aimed at four-year olds, and is run on Thursdays, 10.00am - 12noon, during school terms.

Kid's Corner meetings are times not to be missed! They are a wonderful time for introducing your child to the joys of meeting, playing and learning with other children. Our integrated program includes fun, varied educational experiences, and Bible-based stories and songs.

The emphasis is on providing an environment where children are safe, well cared for, and given the opportunity to grow physically, socially and spiritually. All our Kids Corner teachers and helpers have the 'Working with Children' clearance required by law.

Kids Corner is also a much-welcomed break for parents or custodians of preschoolers. It is a time to meet new friends and share experiences in raising children - the most demanding and important of all tasks.

For further information on enrolling your child in Kids Corner, please contact the church office.

Craft

'Craft' is MBC's response to the renewed interest in handicrafts and art in our community. Craft runs on Tuesdays, 9.30am - 11.30am, during school terms, and is open to every one of any background and ability.

Over the years hundreds of women and men (yes, men are welcome too!) have used their God-given talents to create works of art representing a huge range of media, styles and techniques.

When available, group leaders teach people to learn how to make an array of different things. Teddy bear workshops, decorated tops, patchwork, oil-painted landscapes on canvas, smocking, doll making, paper tolle, lovely gifts for Christmas... the list of crafts to join in goes on and on.

An ample morning tea is provided, and $2 is requested to help cover costs.

'Introducing God'

Have you heard of the popular short course, 'Introducing God'?

The advantage of this course is that it introduces people to the God of the Bible in an accessible and user-friendly way.

Everyone's opinions, views and explanations about God can be expressed during the relaxed discussion sessions. At the same time, God's point of view is heard clearly from the words of the Bible itself.

If you'd like to know more, contact the church office on 9317 2006, or via email .

Pastoral Care

Sooner or later we find ourselves hurting.

The pastors and elders are available to provide help on spiritual and personal matters, as well as enquiries about Christian teaching.

But they are not the only people who are able to provide assistance during times of sorrow or difficulty. There are also other members of Melville Baptist Church who have the special spiritual gift of encouragement and support.

Our food pantry, supplied via donations from the church people, provides emergency food for families in crisis.
